Blue Whale TMT Channel News on September 30th, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will be reorganizing its team and laying off staff for the first time in its history, which is the first large-scale budget reduction since Facebook was founded in 2004.

Zuckerberg said the company will freeze hiring and restructure some teams to cut expenses and refocus efforts. Meta in 2023 will likely be smaller than this year.

"I would have hoped that the economy had clearly stabilized so far. But from what we've seen, it doesn't appear to have materialized, so we want to plan conservatively to a degree," Zuckerberg said.

Meta has previously said the company plans to slow hiring for some management positions and delay the release of full-time jobs to summer interns. Zuckerberg said Meta would "steadily reduce headcount growth."
