It was reported on August 27 that the graphics card market is facing an "ice storm".

Due to the less-than-expected impact of destocking, after the previous quotation was revised sharply, the market has eliminated rumors. Graphics card suppliers will start a new wave of price cuts at the end of August. Nvidia chip products are the main products, and AMD chips are also difficult to achieve. Escape from the fate of bargaining, ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, Huanxun, Leadtek and other board manufacturers were forced to come under pressure.

Chen Jianwei, general manager of Huanxun: "The demand for consumer electronic products is very poor, and we don't know where the inventory is at the moment, but the market has reported that the previous order was repeated, and even tripled the order. I don’t dare to buy it, I can’t see the light in the short term, and I don’t expect to see the light in the fourth quarter.”

Nvidia announced its latest quarterly earnings this week. According to the report, Nvidia’s Q2 revenue was US$6.704 billion, down 19% month-on-month; net profit was US$656 million, down 72% year-on-year and 59% month-on-month.

As a result, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang admits that they make too many graphics cards, and in order to sell as many RTX3000 series cards as possible before the RTX4000 series arrives this fall, Nvidia is currently cutting prices .

"We found ourselves with excess inventory, and our strategy was to sell well below what's currently on the market in order to give the channel a chance to correct."

Of course, what we are talking about here is the shipping price of GPU chips, which does not necessarily mean that the graphics card or gaming notebook in the end market will soon drop in price, because the final price still depends on partners and major retail platforms.

Nvidia has repeatedly stressed that despite the sudden drop in revenue, demand for games hasn't actually dropped, noting that GeForce sales are still up 70% since pre-pandemic.
