Elon Musk, the world's richest man, has recently acquired social media platform Twitter, but his commitment to free speech has been called into question after it banned a safety advocacy group from promoting content that was detrimental to Tesla. As a leading electric vehicle company, Tesla is undoubtedly the most dazzling company under Musk's command.

The Dawn Project, a safety advocacy group, has claimed that Twitter has restricted the group's tweets critical of Tesla for violating the company's policy on political advertising, according to media reports. .

In August, Project Dawn ran a full-page ad in The New York Times criticizing Tesla's FSD, its Autopilot system. Tesla issued a cease and desist order, saying the content was a defamation and misrepresentation of the performance of Tesla's vehicles.

On Sunday (November 6), Dawn Project founder Dan O'Dowd tweeted a screenshot of the aforementioned ad, along with a link to the full text.

However, Project Dawn said the group's attempt to promote the tweet was rejected by the Twitter platform. In a screenshot of the email provided by the group, Twitter said the tweet violated its policies on political advertising.

To be clear, O'Dowd's tweet still exists, though Dawn plans to claim it can't promote it, which could limit its spread.

O'Dowd said in a statement that Twitter's ban on promoting content that is detrimental to Tesla is a serious violation of free speech.

Musk, who once advertised himself as an absolute libertarian, reiterated his desire to make Twitter a digital town square with fewer restrictions on user speech as the dust settled on the Twitter acquisition.

That has sparked concerns among advertisers that, under Musk, Twitter will be flooded with hate speech and misinformation. General Mills, Pfizer, Volkswagen's Audi and other companies have suspended advertising on the platform amid concerns over Musk's content moderation policy after he took over Twitter.
