Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus prototype officially unveiled.

On October 1, Beijing time, Tesla officially launched the humanoid robot Optimus Optimus (hereinafter referred to as Optimus) on the second artificial intelligence day. In the video shown by Tesla live, the Optimus, which weighs 73 kilograms and is 1.72 meters high, can complete tasks such as carrying cargo, watering plants and moving metal rods.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the Optimus walk is not stable yet, but the robot shown so far is only a preliminary product developed by the team, and its actual progress goes beyond that.

Musk said the Optimus will likely be manufactured on a scale of millions, and it is expected that its mass production cost will be much lower than that of a car, and the price may be less than $20,000 (about 142,000 yuan) per unit.

Musk said the real purpose of Tesla's AI Day this year is to convince the world's most talented engineers in artificial intelligence and robotics to join Tesla and help Optimus make progress in mass production.

He said at Artificial Intelligence Day that many people think that Tesla is just a car company, but they don't know that Tesla is also a leader in the field of artificial intelligence.

Musk revealed that the next Tesla car factory will use five Optimus, and they will start with simple tasks in the factory, such as moving goods from one place to another. The functionality of Optimus will also be continuously updated, and a version that can be purchased by consumers will be launched in the next three to five years.

Musk mentioned that Tesla's goal is to make a humanoid robot that can be put into use as soon as possible, so when designing the robot, it uses the same system as the company's car design, thereby reducing costs and increasing production as much as possible.

The team of Tesla engineers said they used the vehicle design as the basis for the entire process from concept to design, production and validation of the robot. The two share many similarities, and much of the design experience can carry over from cars to robots.

Tesla also uses the company's existing infrastructure and supply chain to complete robot manufacturing, while using a central computer, autonomous driving software and hardware to develop a robot research and development platform.

The positioning of Optimus determines that its function must be close to the human brain, so Tesla has added visual data processing functions to it. To support communication, the robot is also equipped with WiFi as well as audio support. As a result, robots can make quick decisions based on multiple sensory inputs.

The Optimus is equipped with a battery pack that can last all day. At the same time, the robot also has hardware-level security features that protect the robot and the people around it. Engineers are also designing the ability to remotely operate the robot so that Optimus can intervene if it misbehaves.

Tesla engineers believe that Optimus will have conversational capabilities in the future, and with the improvement of artificial intelligence, robots can even understand human needs through intuition. When the robot receives complex instructions, it also has the ability to break it down into a series of actions.

Musk has reportedly said that over time, the robotics business has the potential to be more important than Tesla's car business.
