Samsung Electronics will start producing semiconductor products in Vietnam in July next year.

It is understood that the main product of Samsung Vietnam factory is "FC-BGA" high-performance semiconductor packaging substrate, which is mainly used to connect semiconductor chips such as CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphic processing unit) to electronic components of printed substrates , It is mainly used in smart phones and personal computers in daily life.

On August 5, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Zheng met Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-wen in Hanoi. According to Roh Tae-wen, Samsung expects to establish a research and development center in Hanoi by the end of 2022 or early 2023 to support Samsung's development in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries and regions. .

Roh said that Samsung plans to support 50 Vietnamese companies to improve their competitiveness by developing smart factories, in addition to promoting cooperation with Vietnamese universities and research institutions.

Lu Taiwen thanked the Vietnamese government and relevant agencies for helping foreign companies, including Samsung, to mitigate the impact of the epidemic, and for creating a good environment for companies to continue operating in the context of global changes. Samsung Vietnam's export turnover in the first six months of this year was US$34.3 billion, an increase of about 18% year-on-year. It aims to increase its export turnover to US$69 billion this year, while investing another US$3.3 billion and continuing to expand its business in Vietnam. .

Fan Mingzheng suggested that Samsung expand its investment in semiconductor manufacturing. Semiconductor manufacturing is one of Samsung's three major development directions in Vietnam, in addition to mobile devices and consumer electronics. About 60% of Samsung's smartphones are produced in Vietnam.

Currently, South Korea is Vietnam's third largest trading partner after China and the United States. Last year, two-way trade between the two countries reached US$78 billion, accounting for 11.6 percent of Vietnam's total trade value.
