Kanye Ye acquires social media app Parler
American rapper Kanye West (Kanye West, referred to as Ye) participated in the acquisition of American social media platform Parler, the platform's parent company Parlement Technologies has confirmed the above news.
Parler has raised $56 million so far, and it expects the acquisition to close in the fourth quarter of 2022, for an undisclosed price. Parler was launched in 2018. In January 2021, Parler was removed from the Apple and Google app stores because of its involvement in the US Congress riots, and it has now been restored. Social media platforms such as Parler, Gettr, Gab and Truth Social advertise freedom and see themselves as alternatives to Twitter.
Last month, Parler abruptly launched a new parent company, Parlement Technologies. Parlement Technologies CEO George. George Farmer said in an interview on Monday that talks with Ye began after Paris Fashion Week ended.
When attending a fashion show in Paris on October 3, "Kan Ye" Ye wore a T-shirt that read: "White Lives Matter (white lives matter)." Ye posted on Instagram 4 days later, the content inside Anti-Semitism was involved, and Meta subsequently banned his Instagram account. Ye switched to Twitter, and after a lapse of about 2 years, he re-posted on Twitter, and was soon blocked by Twitter again. The deal to acquire Parler went well, and the deal appears to be related to Ye's Instagram ban.
Ye ended its cooperation with Gap in September this year, and Germany's Adidas said on October 6 that it was evaluating its cooperation with Ye. Farm said on Monday he was not concerned about Parler's advertising prospects after the Ye acquisition. "The acquisition is a warning to some platforms that want to block someone," Farm said.
Ye had joined the Parler platform on Monday and had 91 followers at the time of the acquisition announcement, which has now grown to 3,900. "In a world where conservative views are considered controversial, we must ensure that we have the right to freely express ourselves," Ye said in a statement.
According to Farm, Parler currently has 16.5 million registered users. Consulting firm Apptopia estimates that Parler has been installed 11.7 million times since its launch and has 40,000 daily active users. Forbes estimates Ye is worth about $2 billion.
