CMR: India's 5G smartphone shipments in Q2 2022 increased by 163% year-on-year

  According to the latest data released by CMR, one-third of smartphones shipped in India in the second quarter of 2022 will be 5G. In the second quarter of 2022, 5G smartphone shipments increased by 7% quarter-on-quarter and 163% year-on-year. Samsung leads the 5G smartphone market with 28% market share; closely followed by vivo with 15% market share.

  Xiaomi (20%), Samsung (18%) and Realme (16%) occupy the top three spots in the Indian smartphone rankings in Q2 2022, followed by vivo (15%) and OPPO (10%).

  Feature Phone Market

  In the second quarter of 2022, the overall feature phone market declined for the second consecutive quarter, driven by rising inflation trends. 2G feature phones increased by 4% year-on-year, and 4G feature phones decreased by 45% year-on-year respectively.

  Q2 2022: Key smartphone market highlights

  Xiaomi tops the list with a 20% market share. Redmi 9A Sport, Redmi 10 (2022) and Redmi 10A are the most popular models. Xiaomi's shipments fell 23% year-on-year due to intense competition.

  Samsung came in second with an 18% market share. Samsung is focusing on the 5G smartphone segment ranging from INR 7,000 to INR 24,999.

  Realme came in third with a 16% market share, with shipments up 22% year-over-year. The realme C35, realme C11 (2021), realme Narzo50i and realme C31 are the models with the largest shipments.

  vivo and its sub-brand iQOO gained a 17% market share. vivo T1, vivo T1Pro and vivo V23E models account for the majority of its 5G shipments.

  OPPO ranked fifth with a 10% market share. OPPO has a 5% share of overall 5G shipments.

  OnePlus' shipments increased by 60% year-on-year. The OnePlus Nord series accounts for more than 90% of its market share.

  Apple leads the INR 50,000-100,000 segment with a 78% market share.

  Transsion Group brands (Itel, Infinix and Tecno) overall (smartphone + feature phone) shipments grew 8% year over year. Its smartphone shipments grew 5% year over year. Infinix shipments increased by 31%.

  Future Market Outlook

  CMR estimates that overall smartphone shipments in India will exceed 174 million units in 2022.
