Preview of Apple's autumn conference: Pro models have been greatly upgraded, and 3 watches will be released together
Apple will hold this year's autumn conference. In addition to the iPhone 14, a wave of new products will be unveiled this year. Judging from the news so far, there will be at least 3 Apple Watches, as well as a new AirPods Pro true wireless earphones.
Similar to the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year, Apple will also hold a small offline conference at the Apple Park headquarters campus, and will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, and the following is what we may be in this year's Apple hardware feast New product seen above.
iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max get major upgrades
Apple will unveil the new iPhone 14 at this September event, but the standard version may not be the star of the year. The ones that are really expected to get big upgrades are the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are expected to usher in three new features: a customizable always-on display (which Android phones have implemented years ago); a 48-megapixel rear camera with a larger sensor; A smaller camera opening replaces the bangs design.
Speaking of openings, it was previously reported that the iPhone 14 Max and Max Pro will reserve two separate openings for the camera and speaker, but when the screen is lit, the two will form a long pill shape. But a source revealed that Apple will highlight the privacy indicators for the camera and microphone in the extra space between the two openings, and users can click here to find out the current access information for the two hardware. There is also news that Apple may optimize the camera application of the Pro phone, moving the flash and autofocus buttons to the top of the screen, and other functions directly below the opening.
The phone will also be upgraded to the A16 processor and will likely be released in two new colorways: blue and dark purple. There are also rumors that the two devices will support 30-watt chargers (though the phones themselves may still not come with USB-C ports), and the minimum RAM will be upgraded to 256GB from the previous 128GB. In addition, the Pro models are also likely to feature thinner bezels and larger batteries. However, it is precisely because of the integration of so many new features that Apple may increase the price of high-end iPhones.
The standard iPhone doesn't seem to see many major tweaks. Perhaps the biggest change to the non-Pro model is the large 6.7-inch screen for the iPhone 14 Max. However, judging from the packaging flowing out of the Apple factory, Apple may not let the standard iPhone use the Max suffix, but will use the Plus - the last time Apple used this suffix was the iPhone 8 Plus.
Names aside, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that the iPhone 14 (as well as the Pro and Pro Max) may upgrade the selfie camera with autofocus. The standard iPhone 14 is also likely to use the same A15 processor as the iPhone 13 series phones. But Apple may not release a mini model this year, which will undoubtedly disappoint fans of small-screen phones.
Other rumors include: The iPhone may have a built-in satellite module to help users communicate off the cellular network in an emergency. Rumors of satellite modules were rampant before last year's iPhone 13 release, and in February, satellite company Globalstar also purchased 17 new satellites "to provide ongoing satellite service to potential customers" -- industry insiders suspect that this "potential customer" "It's Apple. The name of Apple's "Far Out" event this year also hints at this possibility.
New Apple Watches: Series 8, SE and Pro
Apple is preparing to launch three new Apple Watch models: the Watch Series 8, a new version of the SE, and a ruggedized Pro model for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Start with the Series 8 first. It is reported that the new generation of Apple Watch will use the new S8 chip, but the performance will not be much improved compared with the S7 and S6 chips. Apple may not include a blood pressure monitor in this product, but it may have a built-in temperature sensor, which is easy to know if the user has a fever, and will have a built-in physiological cycle tracking function.
Meanwhile, the new Apple Watch SE is expected to replace the lower-priced Watch Series 3. This product will also use the S8 chip, which is an upgrade from the S5 chip of the 2020 SE model. Other than that, I'm afraid this product won't change much, and the screen will remain the same as the current SE.
As for the Apple Watch Pro, it is reported that it will have a "closer to 2-inch screen" and be highly shock-resistant. The product will also feature a "hard metal casing" rather than the rubber frame previously rumored. Reports suggest that the Pro model could feature a flat-edge display with a larger 47mm bezel, larger than the 41mm and 45mm bezels of the previous Apple Watch Series 7. In addition, this new product may not fit the old Watch strap.
While the first-generation Pro products may not have a built-in satellite module, future models may add this feature. There are reports that Apple is communicating the plan internally. Even without the satellite functionality, the watch won't come cheap -- industry sources expect it to be between $900 and $999.
A new generation of AirPods Pro unveiled
The AirPods Pro have not been upgraded since their 2019 release. Now, nearly 3 years later, Apple is finally expected to unveil the AirPods Pro 2 at this year's Far Out event.
First of all, the appearance of this product may be adjusted. The new AirPods Pro may be very similar to the Beats Fit Pro - with in-ear wingtips that eliminate the stem altogether. Thanks to the built-in motion sensor, this product may focus on the sports tracking function.
Ming-Chi Kuo also revealed that AirPods Pro will also support lossless audio, which is attractive to users who value sound quality. Additionally, the first AirPods Pro 2 will feature Apple's Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) -- a feature not even supported by the high-end AirPods Max. In order to ensure the quality of transmission, the current Bluetooth headsets usually compress the sound quality. If AirPods Pro 2 really supports ALAC, it is worth looking forward to how Apple successfully breaks through the limitations of Bluetooth headsets.
But there are multiple media reports that Apple may take a different approach. The company could instead add support for Bluetooth 5.2, a technology that uses a new codec to improve audio transfer efficiency for better sound quality or lower power consumption. A recent update to the Bluetooth SIG product database revealed that Apple may adopt the technology in the AirPods Pro, and the code for iOS 16 also mentions the technology.
The charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 could also be upgraded. It may have a small speaker built in so that users can make a sound when they use the "Find My" app to find the charging case. At present, only the AirPods themselves can make sound. If this function can be supported on the charging box, it can indeed provide convenience when the earphones are separated from the charging box.
Announcing the release time of iOS 16 and WatchOS 9
We first heard about iOS 16 when Apple announced it in June, and industry insiders said that Apple ended development last week, and the company may officially launch the final version within a week of the iPhone 14 launch event. iOS 16.
iOS 16 will introduce several new features, including editing and recalling messages and customizing the lock screen. In addition, notifications can be moved to the bottom of the lock screen interface, and the Live Activities lock screen plug-in can be added to provide updates on real-time events, such as sports scores and delivery progress.
Plus, battery percentage is finally coming back, but maybe not in the way many imagined. Fortunately, Apple may have found a way to squeeze the percentage indicator into the status bar of the iPhone 14 Pro, but abandoned the previous model of showing numbers and icons side by side.
In addition to iOS 16, Apple will release watchOS 9 along with three new Apple Watches. The watchOS 9 beta has been out for a few months, and the system could introduce some upgrades to the Apple Watch, including new running metrics, medication reminders, sleep tracking, passive atrial fibrillation monitoring, and new watch face customization.
are these all?
It now appears that this is probably what this year's Apple conference is all about. Fortunately, in a few days, another wave of new products will be ushered in. Apple may return to its pre-pandemic mode: holding a new iPhone launch event in September, and a separate launch event for the iPad and Mac in October.
It is expected to usher in the iPad Pro equipped with the M2 chip and the entry-level iPad equipped with the A14 chip. Apple is also rumored to launch three new Macs, including the Mac mini, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, all of which will feature the M2 chip. iPadOS and macOS Ventura will probably launch at similar times.
Also, Apple's long-rumored mixed reality headsets are highly anticipated, but they're unlikely to be released this year. However, Apple has made some progress. Recent trademark filings show that the company will use the Reality brand name for the new headset. Reports suggest that Apple's board had tried out the product earlier this year. Ming-Chi Kuo expects the device to be released in January 2023.
Remember the iPhone subscription rentals from earlier this year? Judging from the current news, the service may be launched by the end of the year, when users can choose to "rent" an iPhone or iPad through a monthly fee.
