Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been embroiled in numerous legal disputes in recent years, from his compensation at Tesla, various securities investigations, the acquisition of SolarCity, and most recently with Twitter, which have spawned so many disputes. Musk-related jurisprudence, so much so that a prominent law school now sees the need to launch a course devoted to these cases. (Note: the United States is a case law country)

The UCLA School of Law recently announced that starting next semester, it will offer a course called "Elon Musk's Law" taught by corporate law expert Professor Stephen Bainbridge.

"As someone who manages other people's vast sums of money, Musk is constantly faced with the temptation to pursue his own interests and goals rather than focus on the welfare of those who entrust his savings to him," reads the course's abstract.

"This course examines how the law limits (or fails to limit) Musk's deviation from shareholder interests."

The course summary also mentions that Musk has generated numerous corporate law and securities lawsuits. In many cases, Musk's out-of-the-box style led to the creation of new laws.

The organizing principle of this course is what economists call the principal-agent problem.

Professor Bainbridge, who teaches the course, said in a recent interview that Musk has created a lot of interesting case law in Delaware. For example, his CEO compensation package has a pending case, which is a great case because it involves a staggering amount of money and will shock students.

"All of these cases from different regions are related to Musk," Bainbridge said. "I think that's going to be a way to really grab students' attention, given how high he's been on Twitter this year."
