　　Amazon will host another Prime Day-like promotion next month. This is the first time Amazon has hosted two such events in one year.

　　Amazon said Monday that the next event will take place Oct. 11-12, and it's dubbing it the "Prime Early Access Sale." Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, said in an interview that the event, open only to paid Amazon Prime members, will offer "hundreds of thousands" of holiday deals.

　　It was previously reported that Amazon had started discussions with sellers about the event as early as June.

　　Prime Day started in 2015 and is usually held every summer. However, due to the operational pressure on Amazon due to the new crown epidemic, in 2020 and 2021, Amazon adjusted the event time. In addition, Amazon has tried other discount promotions, such as clothing sales, pet-themed sales, and fall beauty events.

　　Ghani declined to say whether Amazon plans to host multiple member-oriented promotions in the future.

　　Amazon’s membership sale in October also caters to a trend of holiday season sales in recent years. Right now, big retailers kick off sales long before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, in large part because more retail sales are shifting to e-commerce channels.

　　The new sale could help Amazon kick off the holiday season earlier. Currently, Amazon faces a slowdown in e-commerce sales and a host of economic challenges, including a potential recession, sharply higher inflation, continued interest rate hikes, and overexpansion during the pandemic.

　　This year's holiday season sales are expected to rise from last year, but much of that growth is driven by higher prices, according to a forecast by consultancy Bain & Company. Because wallets are tight, shoppers may be looking for discounts more than in previous years.
