"Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily" September 22 (Editor Qiu Siyu) The "Tesla photovoltaic package" seems to have become a selling point for new houses in some areas of the United States. American real estate manufacturers plan to build a photovoltaic community with Tesla.

According to Electrek, Tesla and American real estate manufacturers are installing Solar Roof (photovoltaic roof) and Powerwall in Austin (a city in Texas, USA). Austin may welcome the world's first Tesla photovoltaic community. According to industry sources, Tesla plans to restart the project in the fourth quarter.

In fact, the project has been planned for a long time, but it has not been implemented. Last year, Tesla signed an agreement with two real estate companies, Brookfield and Dacra. The agreement shows the development of a large Tesla PV community by deploying photovoltaic roofs and Powerwalls on a large scale in new Austin communities.

The real estate in the agreement is a new house in Easton Park. Although the two real estate developers have not announced the number of new houses, the industry generally believes that this is an important development for Tesla’s photovoltaic roof to enter the new house market. Musk also made a bold statement: "Tesla's photovoltaic roof will reshape people's way of life."

According to the data, rooftop photovoltaic is a type of BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic). The product embeds photovoltaic cells in tempered glass, which has both roof and power generation functions. Tesla also specially designed custom fittings, vents and sunroofs to maximize the color consistency and aesthetics of the roof.

The advancement of Tesla's photovoltaic roof project has not been smooth sailing. In July this year, Tesla was reported by Electrek that it has suspended the installation of most rooftop photovoltaics, and the project progress is far behind the target. Previously, Musk had aimed to produce 1,000 rooftop PVs per week by the end of 2019. However, relevant data shows that Tesla deployed 2.5 MW of photovoltaic roofs in the second quarter, or about 23 per week, less than 3% of the target.

But Tesla does not seem to give up, restarting the rooftop photovoltaic project once again. The installation focuses on the new home in Easton Park. Currently, many of Brookfield's homes in the area are labeled "Tesla PV packages."

A resident from Easton Park decided to buy a property that included a Tesla package. In this regard, the resident explained that the main reason is that the electricity generated by Tesla's rooftop photovoltaic exceeds the daily electricity demand, and the remaining electricity can be sold back to the grid. "It will be a long-term passive income in the long run because I have a habit of saving energy," he said.

It is understood that Tesla is setting up a company in Texas to sell retail electricity and is also deploying a virtual power plant. Excess power from Easton Park's rooftop PV project could be fed into Tesla's virtual power plant in Texas.
