the family of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos) has previously pledged to fund immunotherapy research, and now it is committed to Seattle Frederick in the next 10 years. $710.5 million from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.

Bezos' parents, Mike Bezos and Jackie Bezos, have long been supporters of the institution. The Bezos Family Immunotherapy Clinic also opened here in 2016. It also recently merged with clinical care partner Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

"Scientific research, especially cancer and viral research, is at a critical time right now," Bezos said in the statement. "We hope this investment will address the most pressing medical problems. We also hope that this move will inspire others to work with Together we pursue scientific and medical breakthroughs."

The donation from the Bezos family will be used to recruit researchers and build new facilities. Stuart Sloan and Molly Sloan just donated $78 million to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center last month. They said at the time that it was the largest single donation in the agency's 47-year history.

After Amazon's huge success, the huge sums created by it have also spawned many philanthropic causes. Jeff Bezos has donated billions of dollars to charities, and his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott has donated more than $12 billion to nonprofits since the two divorced in 2019. Bezos' parents focused primarily on children's philanthropy projects, Bezos himself focused on climate change, and Scott looked at a broader spectrum from food banks to the philanthropy industry itself.

Other billionaires have also donated money to cancer research this year. KKR co-founder Henry Kravis and his wife, economist Marie-Josee Kravis, donated $100 million to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York in February $55 million from Blackstone's Jon Gray and his wife also donated $55 million to the University of Pennsylvania to fund an agency that develops early diagnosis and prevention of breast, ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

Jackie Bezos said in a statement that the Bezos family's donation "calls for action to support scientific research and drive new breakthroughs."
