Amazon is vigorously promoting the "swipe to pay" function, scanning the palm of the hand to pay in seconds
Amazon launched a palm scanning payment technology called Amazon One in 2020, allowing users to pay by scanning the palm directly. This technology has been used in some stores in the United States before, and now according to The Verge reports that Amazon is expanding the technology to 65 Whole Foods stores in California, its largest rollout to date.
The technology is called Amazon One, and customers can use Amazon One kiosks in stores that support the technology to take pictures and add palm information, along with a mobile phone number and a debit card (credit card). After the setup is complete, you can take the item to the front desk to check out. You don't need to take out your wallet or mobile phone. Just hover your palm over the device to complete the payment and leave.
Amazon says that every person's palm is unique, and even two palms of a person are not the same. Meanwhile, palm photos taken on Amazon One kiosks are not stored locally, they are encrypted and sent to Amazon One's dedicated cloud server, where recognizable palm features are generated.
IT Home has learned that Amazon One has been applied to a total of 70 stores in many places in the United States, and Amazon is expanding in other places. At the same time, Amazon is also actively promoting the application of this technology in other fields, such as access control.
