It's been three years since Apple's Apple Card was released, and it still hasn't left the United States
This month marks three years since the launch of Apple's Apple Card in the United States. The Apple Credit Card was first rolled out to a limited number of customers on August 6, 2019, and expanded to all eligible U.S. residents two weeks later.
However, for iPhone users living in other countries, the Apple Card never came. Because Apple Card is not yet available outside the US.
According to the Canadian Bankers Association, one country where the Apple Card is particularly meaningful is Canada. As of January 2021, the iPhone had more than 50% market share and 76.2 million Visa and Mastercard cards in circulation. AppleCard standard 2% cash back on purchases through ApplePay and 3% cash back at participating merchants are more competitive with other Canadian credit cards, but AppleCard rewards may vary by country.
During a trip to Germany in 2019, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple is open to offering credit cards in other countries, but noted that banks and regulations vary around the world. The AppleCard trademark was approved in Canada last year, but Apple has not announced any plans to expand the card service internationally.
Launched in partnership with investment banks Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Mastercard, AppleCard is fully managed through the Wallet app on your iPhone or AppleWatch, and its key features include color-coded spending summaries, cashback on daily payments, interest-free funds for new Apple purchases Option, with no charges other than interest charges on overdue balances. Stores that don't accept contactless payments can also use a physical Apple Card.
