The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 22nd, saying that the US social media Twitter blocked the accounts of several Serbian embassies and a consulate abroad on the 18th of this month. According to Turkey's Anadolu News Agency reported on the 23rd, the banned foreign institutions were the embassies of Serbia in Armenia, Iran, Indonesia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Kuwait, and the Serbian consulate in Chicago, USA.

Serbia's foreign ministry said in a statement that it was "ridiculous" to censor a range of Serbia's diplomatic and consular institutions while claiming to promote democracy and diversity of views. The Serbian side asked Twitter to immediately unblock the account. The Russian website today reported that Twitter was blocked because it could not stand the official position of the Serbian account on the Kosovo issue. Recently, the relationship between Serbia and Twitter has been tense.

Last week, the Twitter accounts of 16 Serbian dignitaries were also "temporarily suspended", including 13 MPs from Serbia's ruling Kadima party, without any explanation from Twitter.
