Space Exploration Technology Corporation (SpaceX) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have confirmed the company's fifth space launch mission on October 3, which will also mark Russian aerospace Crew Dragon will travel to the International Space Station for the first time.

NASA announced in July that SpaceX's Crew-5 launch was originally scheduled for early September, but the launch was delayed until the end of September after the company accidentally crashed its new Falcon 9 rocket booster into a bridge.

For SpaceX, the accident only damaged the top of the booster a little, and the problem was easily solved by replacing the interstage, but unplanned repairs still took time, thus delaying the qualification test in Texas.

Ultimately, the crash delayed the NASA mission by about a month. Now, NASA and SpaceX have set the date for October 3 at 12:55 p.m. ET (00:55 a.m. GMT) to ensure an "additional separation of spacecraft traffic" from the busy International Space Station (ISS).

Crew-5 will be SpaceX's eighth manned spaceflight mission, the seventh mission to send astronauts to the space station, and NASA's sixth astronaut transportation mission.

After docking with the ISS, Crew-5 will succeed Crew-4, and the astronauts returning to the region will also leave the space station in their CrewDragon and return to Earth sometime in October.
