Apple's M2 Pro and MacBook Pro with Max chips enter development and testing
Apple's next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips are in development and testing, according to Bloomberg, which could be released later this year.
In today's Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Apple's plan is to release the new MacBook Pro as early as this fall, but as always, there's a chance the launch could be delayed due to supply chain disruptions or other reasons.
In response, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that mass production of the new MacBook Pro will begin in the fourth quarter.
While some reports suggest that the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips may be Apple's first 3nm chips, it seems increasingly likely that these chips will remain at 5nm.
But compared to the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, those chips will have a performance boost as Apple is expected to switch from TSMC's standard 5nm process "N5" to a more advanced 5nm process Process "N5P" manufacture.
The M2 Pro and M2 Max chips may also have increased GPU core count and memory compared to their M1 chip equivalents.
There are rumors that there are no major changes in the design of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which seems to be in line with Apple's usual common sense considering that Apple has just launched a newly designed laptop in October 2021.
Previous new designs include a return to ports like MagSafe and HDMI, bringing an upgraded 1080p camera and a thinner bezel display with a notch notch.
There are also rumors that a new Mac mini with the M2 Pro chip might also be released this year, as well as new Mac Pro desktop performance machines with the M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme chips.
