Boston-based RR Auctions said in a statement that the prototype was used by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 1976 to show the owner of The Byte Shop in Mountain View, Calif. Paul Terrell demonstrates the Apple-1 computer at one of the first PC stores in the world. The Apple-1 prototype was put up for public auction in late July and was officially auctioned on August 18.

An unnamed Bay Area collector bid $677,196 on Thursday and won the auction, the auctioneer said.

"There would be no Apple-1 without this board, the holy grail of Steve Jobs and Apple memorabilia," said Bobby Livingston, executive vice president of RR. IT House learned that only about 200 Apple-1 computers were produced. These computers were originally priced at $666 (about 4,542.12 yuan), and most of them were later auctioned off at huge prices.

It is reported that this Apple-1 prototype has been sitting in Apple's garage for many years, and was given to an unknown person by Jobs about 30 years ago, who decided to auction it decades later. The board was also inspected and authenticated by Apple-1 computer expert Corey Cohen, whose notarized 13-page report is also included in the auction.

Other Apple memorabilia sold at the auction included a first-generation iPhone in a sealed box and a tax-free card signed by Steve Jobs.
