After many years, Intel restarted the foundry business again, and the foundry department of IFS will be one of Intel's important revenue sources in the future. Not long ago, it also reached a cooperation agreement with MediaTek, which is also the pull of the IFS department. the most important client ever.

Everyone knows that MediaTek is one of TSMC's leading customers. It is also very symbolic that they choose Intel as the foundry, but MediaTek has also handled it very well. The advanced technology Tianji processor will be the foundry of TSMC in the future. The process of side cooperation is actually not advanced. It is Intel 16, which is essentially an improved version of Intel's 22nm process.

What kind of goals does Intel have in the foundry market? It’s hard to say now, but one thing is certain, Intel will not go to TSMC or Samsung to grab the advanced process of 7nm and below. After all, Intel has not fully completed these processes.

The 22nm process foundry business can still make money for Intel. It has been estimated before that the gross profit of the 20/16nm node foundry is $3,910, and the gross profit of the 7nm process foundry is $5,405. Of course, the profit of the latter is higher . , but the former is not bad. You must know that Intel's 22nm process has been mass-produced for nearly 10 years, and the cost of equipment depreciation has long been completed.

Intel will not directly follow TSMC's advanced technology in recent years, but this does not mean that Intel is willing to do so. After the mass production of advanced technology such as Intel 3 and 18A in the next few years, Intel will still use it for foundry. After all, it is impossible to talk about big customers such as Apple and Qualcomm without advanced technology.
